When it comes to the ammo you carry, the idea is simple: stop the threat from harming you or your family. The last thing you want is a major threat to keep coming after being only meerly wounded by your ammunition.  That is a terrifying situation no one wants to be in, especially when it comes to your life or the lives of your family.

This is why it’s important to understand the types of ammunition on the market today. For the sake of simplicity, we will categorize each type available by the way they are designed to function.

  1. Solid. This style of bullet simply stays together and creates a caliber diameter hole through and through.
  2. Mushrooming. This type of bullet is typically a jacketed, lead core design but can be solid copper as well. The front end will peel back upon penetration, which creates a larger wound channel than the bullet staying caliber diameter.
3. Fragmenting. This style of bullet is designed so that after about 1-3” of penetration, the entire bullet will blow into small pieces. The idea is to keep all of the trauma internal so that no piece of the bullet exits the other side. This style of bullet is common among law enforcement for target ammo due to its usually lead free attributes, but there are also some brands marketing it for personal defense as well.
4. Fracturing. This is a category we created to describe our bullet because none of the above match how they are designed to function. Our bullets are designed to function so that after 1-2” of penetration, the front of the bullet sheds 4 “blades” that break off and radiate outward while the base continues on for deep straight line penetration. We differ from a fragmenting bullet because our expansion is controlled, meaning the bullet will shed those 4 blades every single time with the remaining base weighing the same every time.

With so many choices in ammunition on the market today, we hope you consider all of these factors when choosing the right one for you and your family. Everyone has their own opinions on the subject matter, so do your research and form your own opinions.
